Installing Access 2003 runtime with SP3 and hotfix

Sascha Trowitzsch, fellow Access MVP went to a lot of work figuring out how to create an Access 2003 runtime with SP3 and the combo box hotfix.  See How to build a deployable Microsoft Access 2003 Runtime with integrated Service Pack 3 which will download a DOC file.

Do not miss the existence of the adminexecute.idt and work with the AdvtExecuteSequence.idt.  As did someone who shall remain nameless.  Ayup, your dumb*ss blogger.

The Microsoft Access (Office) Developer Edition FAQ page at my website has been updated.

Also note that Microsoft has closed the security hole where the unpatched version of the Access 2003 runtime would not get updated with SP3 by Microsoft Update.   The problem though is that Microsoft Update wants to download the entire 100 or so Mb Office 2003 SP3.   Not the ideal solution but ok for folks on high speed Internet.  Of course this would not update the Access runtime with the KB945674 hotfix which fixes the combo box problem.

  1. These instructions will allow you to do so. Or if you like contact me directly and I can prepare the file for you for a reasonable fee. Note that I will need some proof that you do indeed own the Access 2003 runtime.

  2. Thanks, this was a great help! From a total newbie perspective I have two small things I want to point out. First, on Page 6 when you say “Rightclick accessrt.msi and choose Edit witth Orca” you mean the one in c:\ACCESSRT_EN\admin.

Second, to install the new release run C:\ACCESSRT_EN\admin\ACCESSRT.MSI. You can move it somewhere else, but it needs to be in the same directory as the new ACCESSRT.CAB.

  3. Thank you for this graet manual – it works like expected if the runtime is not already installed. But if the RT is alredy installed (without sp), the installer shows up with a message “Another version of this product is already installed. ….” and aborts. Is there any solution which solves this problem?

  4. Good evening,

I already have Office 2010 installed on my computer.
My operating system is Windows 7.

I have just bought a MS Office 2003 Professional Edition.
From this, I wanted to install just Access.

I put the CD into the drive and typed in the product key.
But I get this error message :

    “Windows Script Host” Message Box

    Script : E\autorun.vbs

    Line : 12

    Char : 1

Error : The requestor operaton requires elevation

    Code : 800702E4

    Source : WshShell.Exec

Can you tel me what this means, and why the software will not install?
