To minimize the impact of rebooting on the bloggers (and quite frankly to use this server as test beds for the rest of the fleet to confirm what patches are expected and what not), these two servers, Yoda and Brianna I hand patch and don’t use my normal tools of Shavlik and WSUS. And I’m now two for two this month on remote servers that need a manual bounce.
How to prevent this? Well for one ensure you have folks like the staff at www.ownwebnow.com that I can log into their control panel and request a reboot. Otherwise invest in Drac’s and Ilo’s and other remote hardware that gets you in under the operating system level.
Fasten your seatbelts and prepare a little extra this weekend just in case.
