XP SP3 and MCE

Yes, that’s XP sp3 on a Media Center edition as a test, and yes I didn’t lose domain join, but I’m still not ready to give it the thumbs up at this time on MCE’s.  We still haven’t gotten to the bottom of two MCE’s that didn’t like the install of XP sp3.

Bottom line if you have a MCE and it’s domain joined via the banana hack, make a backup and be prepared to uninstall it if need be.

Hi. Have you tried SP3 on a non Domain joined MCE PC? If so, are there any issues with this? I know how picky MCE can be and as mine seems to be working OK at the moment i would not want to risk installing SP3 if there’s a change that MCE will break.

SP3 RTM installs on my MCE 2005 machine but just goes into a re-boot loop with no errors just a constant re-boot and that’s it. I had to go into safe mode to uninstall it. Looks like MCE owners will be left out in the cold on this one.

Be sure your Video and NIC drivers are up to date on vendors web site. I had same result as you until I updated my NVIDEA and INTEL drivers and now all is cool

All drivers are up to date but still constant re-boot issue. Not sure what the issue is. I have an HP a1410n desktop, AMD 64 Athlon 3800+, 2GB of RAM, 200GB SATA and 320GB SATA HD’s, 2 HP 740b LightScribe DVD burners, NVidia 7300GS Video, D-Link DWA-140 wireless USB, Running MCE 2005 w/rollup2, Office 2003, Nod32, and that’s about it. SP3 seems to be a no-go for me.
