Connect from XP to SBS 2008 fails

Lessons from the SBSC SBS newsgroup (another reason for being a SBSC, so far some of the better issues/resolutions have been in the SBSC newsgroup.

The Windows XP computer could not join a SBS 2008 domain…. in the connect log file this was seen:

> The ConnectComputer.log shows the following:
>
> [3520] 081117.172354.6254: ClientSetup: Failed to open registry for
> profilelist S-1-5-21-2292144591-548658574-33896668-1004.
> [3520] 081117.172354.6254: ClientSetup: Failed to open registry for
> profilelist S-1-5-21-2292144591-548658574-33896668-1005.

The resolution was that it was permission errors on the profile:
>
> It seems the user account used doesn’t have sufficient permissions to
> access the local users’ profile registry for profile migration.
>
> Please try my previous suggestion to create a new local admin user account
> on the client computer, and then run http://connect under the newly created
> admin account to check the result.
>
> Before run http://connect, I suggest you rename the old ConnectComputer.log
> so a new log will be generated.
