So if you have OEM you want to purchase can you download the CARE version or the Technet version and then use the OEM Key?  I’d advise not.  There are two official SBS media kits.

VL, Technet, MSDN, Retail are all one media style/kit.

OEM is another build.  Because I can’t confirm if this key can be used on technet/msdn media I’d opt for being safe than sorry.  I’m not a fan of OEM media for servers anyway as the OEM media is tied to the server should the motherboard die while not under warranty and you can’t move the virtualization license.

Bottom line think carefully about OEM purchases.

Are you talking about Royalty OEM’s or System Builders?

The generic SB hologram media has been the same as retail, TechNet, and even MAPS media since Windows Vista.

Royalty OEM media (ie. from big name brands) has SLP code on it, which ties it to the BIOS ID info that identifies the make and model of system, so it can’t be installed on different hardware. ROK’s are the same.

It also depends on SKU in some cases. For instance, you can use Office 2010 OEM or retail media and product keys interchangeably. However, VL versions include Office Small Business, so you can’t unlock it with a VL key and a preloaded OEM copy. The same is true of Enterprise SKU’s of client versions of Windows – you need the enterprise media for those.
