Always remember to psconfig it

After patching your companyweb in SharePoint 2010/SBS 2011 may look like that.  Don’t panic just psconfig it.

(but it’s not easy to google that up when there’s no visible error message)

I installed SharePoint Foundation 2010 SP1 and a couple updates on an SBS 2010 Standard server. I knew (thanks to Susan) that I had to run PSConfig and so I did it. After a restart and logging on the server as an administrator, I get a nag window (NotificationUI.exe) reminding me to run PSConfig. It is nice of Microsoft to remind me, but I just ran PSConfig. Thinking that I must have not run PSConfig correctly, I ran it again. But the nag window still appears every time I log on to the server.

At the bottom of the nag windows it says, “If you have already run PSConfig, you can ignore this message.” Is the nag window “crying wolf” and it is going to nag me every time I log on to the server from now on?

NoficicationUI.exe is run by a logon script, LaunchNotificationUI.cmd, in the GPO SharePoint PSConfig Notification Policy. I could be missing it, but I don’t see any intelligence in there that would know that I have already run PSConfig.

It will take 24 hours for it to go away.
