Problem/Question:

The backup doesn’t start it fails on the following “Backup Unsuccessful” Creating the shared protection point on the source volumes failed. Unknown error (0x8004230f)

Solution/Workaround:

=================

1. login to your SBS 2008 server, Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and hit Enter.

2. Locate and then click the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\swprv\Parameters

Note: If the Parameters registry key is missing, perform the following steps:

Right-click the swprv registry key, select New, select Key, type Parameters and hit Enter.

3. Once the Parameters registry key is selected, verify that the ServiceDll registry value has the following value:

%Systemroot%\System32\swprv.dll

Backups fails with VSS Event ID 12292 and 11 on Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2

    My SBS Backup stops working after a few days. Usually a reboot will make it start working again, but a few days later it fails again.

    I saw this post hoping this would fix it, but the key was already there.
