  1. Hello Chris,

    I’m a big fan of your blog, and I read it religiously. You as a matter of fact helped me a while ago regarding DVD streaming in MCE. I think the wife is finally on board with getting a Cable Card PC for the living room and we have decided to get the Dell XPS 420, as it is the best bang for the buck right now.

    My questions are;

    1. Can I configure it with a 64bit version of Vista or its only available in 32bit?

    2. If not possible from the OEM, can I re-install Vista 64bit without loosing OCUR Support.

    3. Is there 64bit support for the ATI OCUR Tuners?

    This is because I’m trying to go beyond the 2 (or 3) gig Ram limitation in the 32bit version. Any idea if Ceton Corp’s MOCUR setup will work on the XPS420. Do you know when and if we will be able to stream CableCard to other Vista PC’s.

    And finally, can Web Guide be used to stream Cable Card content onto other Vista PC’s.

    Thanks in advance,

  2. Hi Daryl,

    I’m sure we will cover some of these indirectly during the show, but quickly here is some direct information that should help you out.

    1. I think Dell only offers 32-bit, but 2. Yes you can upgrade with a retail 64-bit copy if you want and it will still work, so 3. Yes there is 64-bit support for OCURs.

    Ceton’s tuners should work, they are based off of an extension of the OCUR specs.

    Streaming to other PCs is still no where to be found, no idea when/if Microsoft will finally start to realize this is needed.

    Since CableCARD content is protected, WebGuide can’t touch it.
