Oracle aims to tone security muscle with Fusion

In 2005, Oracle bought 14 companies, including Siebel and PeopleSoft. Now Oracle is getting security tips from some of those operations and making use of them in a business applications software overhaul, an initiative called Project Fusion that includes the development of its next generation product.  One thing Oracle has learned from PeopleSoft is that “less customization equals fewer security risks.”  Something else learned in part from PeopleSoft is to ship products that have a high level of security out of the box, or at least provide an easy way to increase the security level. “That is the future: Security by default,” says John Heimann, director of security program management at Oracle.
