Important Note: This update contains a change in the prefix in the HOSTS entries to “” instead of the usual ““.This was done to resolve a slowdown issue with the new Win8.1/IE11 and the HOSTS file.

I’m not sure what Microsoft changed in the new version, although I suspect it has something to do with the new “TCP loopback interface” in Win8.1 … this change in the prefix should not affect users.

If this proves to be a permanant fix … I will update the website to reflect the changes.

Also, the following entry had to be disabled … otherwise fails … Imagine that!

  1. If I run win7 and I don’t want to be tracked by any healthcare site, should I even bother to update my hosts file?

  2. Tony,
The point is that the site fails when you try to sign on to ObamaCare … without removing that entry.

Yes you should update, as there are hundreds of new entries …

  3. Thanks once again. Posted in the usual places.

  4. ok, I updated to the latest version but I want to reactivate that chartbeat entry. I tried to edit the hosts file and remove the “#” from the second chartbeat entry but it wouldn’t let me save the edited file. Can you provide an updated hosts file with the chartbeat entry active for those of us who do not need to worry about Obamacare (i.e., the majority of Americans)?
    Thanks for what you do!
