SPC 2011 “with a little help from my friends”

I was reminded today of one of my favorite songs as a kid listening to the Beatles on a small FM Radio when I supposed to be asleep… (I tell you at the end or something if you don’t know the name)

My favorite part of the SharePoint Conference this year was not the just great speakers like Spence Harbar, Scott Hillier, Gary Lapointe, Todd Baginski, Andrew Connell or Israel that left me knowing how much work I still have left to polish my delivery skills. But to hang out with my friends who have become my family..

I was lucky enough to spend almost 2 days with 2 MCM Candidates Jim Duncan and Dave Milner, an evening with an MCM Paul Stork, an afternoon chasing the sun after the conference with Chris Givens. 30 minutes with Becky Isserman, who if you think my schedule is insane Becky is planning on doing more sessions at more SharePoint Saturdays than Christian Buckley who I think did 17 SharePoint Saturdays this year who coincidentally Jim and I bumped into during breakfast at the Marriott Concierge Lounge. I spent 20 minutes or so with Kris Wagner where it was  so cool I got a hug after I interrupted a client meeting, lol (Sorry Kris) or while walking to Marriott after the show bump into Dan Holmes walking the other way or my friend Chris Riley who is loving CloudShare, Greg Dovidio rockin at AvePoint (I finally met TJ, can you imagine growing an SharePoint ISV from 1 person to over a 1000)..

What would you think if I sang out of tune,
Would you stand up and walk out on me.
Lend me your ears and I’ll sing you a song,
And I’ll try not to sing out of key.
Oh I get by with a little help from my friends,
Mmm,I get high with a little help from my friends,
Mmm, I’m gonna try with a little help from my friends.

I have been doubly blessed this year in that I was awarded the MVP Award again and I get to work with some of the most talented and dedicated folks ever with MCS on the Foundation and Fusion teams Pankaj Surit , John Spinella, Mac McCluskie, Bill Wolff, Yi Wen Yiu, Amit Tak, Olaf Cames, Sampath Vuyyuru, Mickey Young, Brian Marten, Norm Lambert and many more that I don’t remember @ 3am (I couldn’t sleep without getting this post out) and I hope I spelled everyone’s names right, if not shoot me…

The simple truth is these are dreams that have come true for me this year… The MVP Program and the SharePoint Server MVP Award specifically and now the opportunity to work with an extremely talented MCS Team just left me thinking today after the show looking back on SPC11 and the last 7 years of NothingButSharePoint (jthake)…

Oh, I get by with a little help from my friends,
Mmm, gonna try with a little help from my friends
Ooh, I get high with a little help from my friends
Yes I get by with a little help from my friends,
with a little help from my friends

Thank you all for putting up with my BS and providing the guidance I have needed when I needed it. Now would Y’all just slow down for like a year so I can catch up with everyone, LOL…

I love SharePoint, the SharePoint Community and All of You (well most of you)

Also, my son Jon the best part of me. Happy 21st Birthday I was amazed when we got the Cake at the Cheese Cake Factory, its still hard to believe its been 21 years, thank you for hanging out on all the weekends I dragged you to client sites for the last 17 years, its been a blast.

Cheers,

-Ivan
