Clustering Validation Check Fails: Failed to prepare storage for testing on node <fqdn> status 87

Clustering can be a fun task especially when you are using Hyper-V Server 2008 R2 in the days before it launches. Strange errors can frustrate even the brave at heart.

The “failed to prepare storage for testing on node…” error results from bit lock creating a partition in the first 100 MB of your primary drive and then not setting a drive letter.

Given the command line interface for Hyper-V Server 2008 R2, I had to assign the drive letter by using the command lines.

From the command Prompt:

type diskpart

type  select volume 1

type assign

Re-run the cluster validation tool.
