This is the message which greeted me four days ago when I brought the PC out of hibernation.

  1. Aug 4th – So it rebooted, then it did it again. After the third reboot, it settled down for the rest of the day. I updated the network card drivers.
  2. Aug 5th – So it rebooted, then it did it again. After the third reboot, it settled down for the rest of the day. I updated the chipset/video drivers.
  3. Aug 6th – So it rebooted, then it did it again. After the third reboot, it settled down for the rest of the day. I ran SFC which found errors and fixed them after a reboot..
  4. Aug 7th – This is the first morning since the 4th where the machine exhibited no problems at all..

The first two fixes appeared to do nothing other than update drivers. BIOS was also suggested as a candidate but Gigabyte have only produced one BIOS for my PC. Running SFC was something I did because I could not think of anything else to do.

Is it fixed now? One day of clean operation is never enough to make any claim about PC performance but it is looking good, I must admit.
