You may have noticed that the original header image has disappeared. All of the work that I put in to making it has come to nothing. For reasons only known to the WordPress theme, it has decided to compress the header image to only 80 pixels which of course has involved more work. So, what… Continue reading This Blog..
Azure fails.. Oops. So this is why I couldn’t get to some websites. It is just one more sign pointing to the fragility of new ways. Nothing is ever 100% reliable and that applies to the cloud as much as anything else. You can read more about it here. http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-30111575# Being an old-timer, I am… Continue reading Just when you think it is safe..
HP will slap my hands for the title, but it looks like a Netbook, is the same size as a traditional Netbook, is low powered by comparison to a regular notebook, and in my world, that constitutes a NETBOOK. The HP Stream 11 is not a Netbook (yeah right). Officially, it is a Happy Place,… Continue reading Return of the Netbook..
Not too much happening on the Windows 10 front, no updates, no nothing really. I am not using it day to day because I can’t fully replicate what I do in Windows 8 without taking Windows 8 down. So not much to say. On the Windows 8 front, today is the first in three weeks… Continue reading This week @ TCG..
.. was a photo of an MGB sports car, and this is what I got (see the box in the bottom left corner of the screenshot). So, is there a media player update waiting in the wings? Nope. What you get is this (see below), and we all know what happens if this stuff gets… Continue reading All I wanted..
It was only a matter of time before one of my drives needed to be checked for errors. The J drive, a 320gb WD IDE drive is in very good condition, but Windows 8 does not see it the same way and didn’t with Windows 7 either. I don’t actually dual boot. I parallel boot… Continue reading Dual booting..
.. or more to the point, how I make it work for me. Those in high places should stop reading this now as it is going to hurt.. Don’t use any apps.. There is nothing an app can do that a regular tried and tested installable application or utility can’t do and and differences come… Continue reading How to make Windows 8/8.1 work for you..
OK, so you may have issues when upgrading to Windows 8.1, or if the Windows 8.1 upgrade is pushed through without consent. Some have found the push to be very annoying, trouble following it, and a strong desire to want to go back to Windows 8.. See here for a few of the complaints.. http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows8_1-windows_update/ms-forced-install-to-windows-81-after-i-click-on/98113c9b-0057-435b-9e24-07f8165fb829 … Continue reading Windows 8.1 Upgrade..
When I took this job on yesterday evening, it should have been relatively simple. The machine had picked up a variation of the FBI virus plus other stuff no doubt, but as it was to be used by somebody other than the original user and nothing had been saved, I elected to do a back… Continue reading Windows 8.. Virus ridden and not working..
OK. I am up and running again, but parallel booting with Windows 8, so I can’t easily compare the two side by side. The right click options from the Start button are impressive, better than the older classic Start menu in fact if you are into Control Panel applets.. Programs and Features Power Options Event… Continue reading Windows 10 Tech preview.. Part 5
This is going to be a very quick entry. The machine which I had hosting Windows 10 is going to a new location very soon, and I spent this afternoon setting it up for the new user. So I stripped out the drive, reformatted it, disconnected the two SATA drives in my production machine, installed… Continue reading Windows 10 Tech preview.. Part 4.. UPDATE
What would you like to see in Windows, what kind of options and/or preferences? Much depends on what kind of a Windows user you happen to be. The list below is copied from the Ghacks newsletter, and is a good place to start when looking for what users would like to see My takes are… Continue reading Windows 10 preferences..
