I have a server running SBS2003, and want to resize the disc partition as it is split into a 10gb and 70gb partitions.

Is there any software I can use to do this as I could notfind any ?

Thanks

Hello Andy,

Thank you for posting to SBS Newsgroup.

I understand that you want to change the partition size of your 2 hard drives. If I have misunderstood your concern, please let me know.

Since you only have 2 partitions, one of them must be a System or Boot partition. In Windows, we do not have native support of changing a boot or system partition’s size. We can only extend a data partition/volume to unallocated space in the same disk or in dynamic disks. For more information, you can take a look at the following KB articles:

886986 Functionality restrictions of the Diskpart.exe utility to extend system

325590 How to use Diskpart.exe to extend a data volume in Windows Server 2003, http://support.microsoft.com/?id=325590

Otherwise you will have to clean install SBS and change the partition size during the installation. The following are the basic steps:

1. Run NTBACKUP to perform a full backup on the entire system.

2. Insert SBS 2003 or Windows 2003 Setup CD to reinstall Windows 2003.

During the setup, delete and then repartition the disks to the size you want.

3. In Windows/SBS 2003, run NTBACKUP to restore the data from the previous backup media.

If you would like to extend the partition size without the reinstallation in SBS, you may need to use third-party disk tools. Hope others can share their experience with you. If none of the suggestion is acceptable, you can consider moving SBS 2003 data to the other partition to free up the drive space on C which is full. You can refer to the following document:

If there is anything unclear or you need any further assistance, please do not hesitate to post back. Thank you.

Best regards,
