Hi,

I understand Sharepoint allows each virtual server (whether it be a portal site or a top-level WSS site) to specify its own Content Database.

Can it also do that for a top-level WSS site UNDER a portal? i.e. for a WSS site created from within the portal itself?

Yeah, I think so.  I haven’t tried this just read about it.

Add a content database to the portal

On the existing content DB for the portal set the site limit to the current number of sites Now create your new site.

It should be created in the content db.

Now you can set the limits to whatever you want depending on where you would like future sites to be created.

Let me know if this works.

This works to a point, but in reality, we don’t have the ability to directly specify which database will host which site collection.  :-(
