Alerts get smarter and prettier

Ok this will be real quick as I just saw this and it is dinner time.  This is a screen shot of an alert I got from a team site in Office 2007 Server and viewed in Outlook 2007.

I think the picture speaks for itself.  Just in case you missed look up there again.  Do you see the yellow highlighted text that says Edited?  That is right I changed the metadata for Our Offices from Cincy to Nashville and the alert told me so.  Very cool!  This feature deserves more review but right now I am hungry so a cool screen shot is all you get.  🙂

SharePoint Help

Save as from Microsoft Office is improved

Ok.  We will add this to the list of little features that make me happy.  So Bob, your accountant, has created a new word document and he would like to save it to his HR site.  Now even though you made the site easy to find by giving it the URL http://portal/sites/hr there is no way Bob can remember that.  So he is now stuck saving the document to his desktop, opening IE, navigating to his site and then the document library.  Then he can click on upload and add the document.  That works but it is cumbersome.  What would be ideal is if Bob could click save as from word, type in http://portal and then navigate to the site and document library.  In SPS 2003 that wasn’t doable.  In SPS 2007 it is.  Hooray.  Check out the screen shot.

All of the sub-site available below a site now show up on the web view of the save screen.  Hooray. So this allows me to navigate to sites and then navigate to its subsite called HR.  Just like the user would do if they were in the portal with IE.  Very cool!

April has come and gone and no post

Sorry!  I would like to blame it only on slacking in April but that wouldn’t be entirely true.  My friends at Dell have had my Lattitude D810 held hostage for 4 weeks now.  So I have been borrowing a laptop that is sub standard (Toshiba Satellite) for the duration.  While this laptop works well enough to get my immediate work done it annoys me enough that I have not been able to get into the swing of blogging or posting in the newsgroups.

Hopefully when I return from teaching in Nashville I will have a box from Dell with my replacement laptop.  And once I get mine back I promise to go on a tirade of posting about all of the cool new stuff I have found in Office 2007.  And being the slacker I am I have lots of little features to show off.  The big cool stuff gets lots of press but not the little things.
