How to ping TFS to see if it’s up and running

March 2nd, 2011 · 2 Comments · TFS 2010, TFS Administration, Tools and Utilities

The command line:

pingtfs.exe /server:http://myserver:8080/tfs

Run the pingtfs command to see if your TFS is responding.

(Note: pingtfs.exe will return an exit code of 0 if the ping succeeded, otherwise it will return an exit code other than zero.)

Thanks for the tool, the respoonse is exactly as when we type the url in browser, in both cases I get

    Server Error in ‘/’ Application
    Runtime Error

Can you please indicate what are the steps or tools or services to check as I am comlpletly lost since 1 week as I am not able to connect to my tfs, even though it seems that in TFS admin console verything is OK.

    Thanks in advance

@Sakan; Exactly. The tool is supposed to show the same error message.

Pleae call Microsoft Support to get that resolved.
