Fenway Baby!!!!

When I registered for TechEd I meant to go online and see if the Red Sox were in town, and if they were, grab me a pair of tickets. I’m a big baseball fan and Fenway Park is one of the two remaining classic parks in the game (the other is Wrigley Field in Chicago). It turns out they have a series against the Texas Rangers that ends the day I planed to arrive, after that they go on the road.

Anyway, I just got around to booking this weekend, I should have done it earlier. I couldn’t get a pair of tickets, just this single with an obstructed view – but I don’t care – I’m going to Fenway baby!

If you’re¬†going to TechEd are probably saying, “Uh Rob, the attendee party is at Fenway Park, you’ll be going anyway.”

I know – and it’s not the same. I can see the real Fenway experience now (my apologies to James Earl Jones and the writers of Field of Dreams for the remainder of this post), I’ll walk out to the bleachers, and sit in shirt-sleeves on a perfect afternoon. I’ll find my obstucted view seat way up behind one of the baselines, where someone sat when they were a child and watched Bucky Dent homer over the Monster to knock the Sox out of the playoffs. I’ll watch the game, and it’ll be as if I’ve dipped myself in magic waters. The memories will be so thick, I’ll have to brush them away from my face.

The one constant through all the years has been baseball. The world has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It’s been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt, and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game, is a part of our past. It reminds us of all that once was good, and it could be again. Ohhhhhhhh, I will go. I will most definitely go.
