A Technical Report has been released, which is a detailed Solution Guide for Microsoft Exchange, SQL, SharePoint Server mixed workload running within the Virtual Machines hosted on Microsoft Hypervisor (Hyper-V) and the NetApp MetroCluster environment.
The architectural solution details provided in this Technical Report is extremely helpful to customers which showcases the simplicity of a robust infrastructure with Windows Hyper-V 2008 R2 in a virtual environment with NetApp storage. It provides the ability to maintain High Availability for both the computing and storage resources between the Primary and Secondary sites and a complete Disaster Recovery in the event of the loss of a complete site. This infrastructure also offers the ability to dynamically move an environment’s complete operation between the Primary and Secondary sites to minimize disruption during scheduled maintenance events.
The report also focuses on various failure scenarios and the value of deploying Windows Server 2008 R2, Hyper-V Live Migration, and NetApp MetroCluster to recover from these failures. Each failure scenario simulates real-world operational failures and real disasters. The expected outcome and actual results are described in terms of NetApp MetroCluster product operation and the resulting behavior of Hyper-V servers and virtual machines (VMs).
