What is a SBS-MVP?
SBS = Small Business Specialist.
MVP = Most Valuable Professional – Microsoft

(Gleanned from Microsoft MVP Site.)  SBS-MVPs are exceptional technical community leaders from around the world who are awarded for voluntarily sharing their high quality, real world expertise in offline and online technical communities. Microsoft MVPs are a highly select group of experts that represents the technical community’s best and brightest, and they share a deep commitment to community and a willingness to help others.

Over 100 million people participate in technical communities but there are only 48 SBS-MVPs worldwide. Outstanding technical community members are nominated by their peers, Microsoft employees, and SBS-MVPs. Each year a panel of Microsoft employees reviews the contributions of each nominee for quality, quantity, and level of impact on the technical community. Today’s SBS-MVPs reflect Microsoft’s global customer base and the breadth of its technologies.

SBS-MVPs are not Microsoft employees, nor do they speak on Microsoft’s behalf. SBS-MVPs are third-party individuals who have received an award from Microsoft that recognizes their exceptional achievements in technical communities.

OK those are Microsofts Words:

Be assured I do not consider myself exceptional nor do I consider  myself an Expert. (By Any Chance)

Some history about me on how I fell into this job:

I’ve always loved computers and helping people at my 16 years of Intel Corp. However I was held back on being to truly able to help people, in 1998 I left Intel because of the Politics.  At that time I was not Microsoft Certified,  why?  Because every certified person I ever met was book smart but not street smart in what to do with a Microsoft Server. (And there was no way I wanted to be a part of that group.)  I had barely heard of Microsoft Small business Server  in 1998 and was working on regular servers.  In 2003 a new client wanted me to install SBS2003, I did not know anything about this product but I heard it was different.  Because I like to LEARN things I started Searching the Web for Information.  I found the Microsoft Public newsgroups and started reading.  Like MOST IT people using a Wizard to configure a server is the last thing you wanted to do.  However a MVP named, Susan Bradley said “I must do this”, she  Was right, and that was the first step.

I fell in Love with SBS2003, “Finally a server that works and does so much!”  During my interaction with the Current MVP’s on the newsgroup I was amazed at their knowledge, and helpfulness.  As a result of meeting those people I not only became a Microsoft partner, but became a certified SBS Specialist.  I normally don’t like to become members of groups, but the SBS group people had a High Integrity and a professionalism.

I was Honored to be a MVP, and I hope you find this website usefull and entertaining.
Thank You. – Russ Grover SBS MVP July 2009 – July 2011
