Ping anyone?

Well I’m here on hold with nice jazz music because I’m stuck.  Note to self… make sure you can ping from the initial build of the system.  ISA server install got stuck the first time, so I stopped the nonresponding app [and btw ..note to Microsoft …when you have no Internet connectivity it’s a little hard to send you Dr. Watson dumps.. can you provide an offline mechanism or something?] I started it over again and the install appeared to go fine the second time. So I ran the connect to the Internet wizard [CEICW] and then couldn’t connect to the internet.  Pinged the router to test for basic connectivity and it did a “request timed out”… that’s weird.  Eric F said to try a arp -a and …well … I’m a bit arpless.  Right now it only has info for the internet NIC and nothing for the external one. So now I’m waiting on hold to talk to one of the Motherships.

I “could” start over from stratch… but I guess I’m just a stubborn female who doesn’t want to and see if I can get this resolved.  I attached one workstation and can ping the server from it, but when I ping that attached workstation from the server…it’s pingless.  Weird.  I already removed the HP special network software just to be on the safe side, installed the latest drivers for the external nic… guess I could check for drivers on the internal one.

Well I guess I should multitask while I’m waiting… I have those book chapters to read.

I’ll keep you posted.

Is it possible that you have MAC address filtering turned on for the router?

That has bitten me a few times.

  2. Susan says:

Not that kind of router. And I should be able to ping the workstation from the server.

    Still on hold.

AH HA had to throttle the NIC to 10 speed and then I’m out on the Net!

Oh that was blonde … I had Trend’s Pccillian’s firewall on the Tablet PC …no wonder I couldn’t ping the tablet from the server. Weird though the Arp table is still blank.
