Okay so like this is a joke.. but unfortunately it’s one that a lot of folks think is going on in their systems… they don’t trust what automatic updates does on their systems.
But keep in mind that enabling automatic updates to “download but let me install” means just that.. it will not force and install and will only download the update and install it when YOU choose to do so.
Also, please bear in mind that for the time between install and restart, your system has entered into an untested, unsupported, and likely unstable state. Don’t install a “may require restart” fix if you’re not ready to restart _soon_.
Nice one. I almost thought it was was real and caught myself automatically moving the mouse pointer to “Restart Later”. Doh!
Not quite as bad as the quickbooks patch i blogged about at http://www.absoblogginlutely.net/mtblogarchive/005580.php
Still, it would be nice if there was an “install at XX:00 at reboot” so you could script it to install and reboot at 2am in the morning.
Don’t forget about the one that gives you 5 minutes to do a restart or it will force it. Even if your not there and it will re-prompt in 5 min.
