We’re hoping to remedy it soon, but for now, all I can say is, I’m sorry, we’re doing the best we can given the community server platform that we’re planning to leave.

Community server’s (Telligent) business model changed (understandably so) and quite frankly, this site is not a business.  We can’t afford the platform that Community server has evolved into.  We can’t afford the licensing fees and the server farm it needs to keep this blog site up.  (Right now there’s two servers running this blog site).

It’s a community peer squalk box that depends on the kindness of folks.  As a result it suffers.  There are days like this when the CPU is pegging at 100% and there’s not much that can be done anymore that I get a bit discouraged about keeping up the site.

Then this afternoon Yoda’s power supply died on us (the reason for it being down this afternoon).

Bottom line all I can say is, sorry about the issues and I hope you’ll be patient with us a bit longer.  We’re planning a major change over to WordPress and I hoping that will settle the performance issues down.

    We’ll forgive you. 🙂

The pegging at 100% shows your popularity. Either that or it’s a denial of service attack. 🙂

    Hi Susan,

For $8 per month you can have a great site on SquareSpace.com, which will not have any trouble handling the traffice.

    Regards,

The issue isn’t bandwidth, it’s how community server’s performance sucks. We’ve been on shared server setups before and outgrew it years ago.

Well, whatever you did, it’s nearly 100 times faster than 12 hours ago. (Page load time is down from 4-5 minutes to ~3 seconds.)

  6. Hate to hear that, SBS Diva. If you’d like a less expensive solution…and one still based in .NET but on a cloud computing platform…let me know.

INgage Networks (http://www.ingagenetworks.com/) has been standing up social media communities since 1999 and was voted the “Best Social Networking Platform” by the SIIA 2 years in a row.

Here’s hoping your problems are fixed soon!

Wierd that its bad while idles like that. We are on Community Server as well and have had no issues. Have you make sure that your database is tuned? Try running their stored procedure ‘cs_system_dbreindex’ on a regular basis.

Something seems fishy to be that bad while idling. Have you tried running their stored procedure ‘cs_system_dbreindex’ on a regular weekly basis?
