Google’s RIP

On March 17, 2013, in news, by

As a fan of RSS feeds myself seeing Google reader get killed off means that I’m sweating bullets for the RSSable stuff as a whole.

Google Reader joins graveyard of dead Google products – Slate Magazine:

I use RSS feeds to stay informed  and to keep up with changes and I hope this is not a bellweather event for RSS feeds as a whole.

This was almost my last service left with Google (the other being Analytics).

I found NewsBlur to be a great replacement, RSS will live on! They had a big hit when Google Readers death was announced but have come back quite well.

There have been a number of companies saying they will step up. Since I use reeder on my iphone and ipad I’m waiting to see who they will support and go there.

Even if Google does a 180 here (doesn’t seem likely, they are all G+ and they have already reassigned Reader team members) I won’t go back.
