Heads up to SBS 2008 patchers:

Based on the pre-published content in KB894199 that next Tuesday anyone with a SBS 2008 is going to see a SharePoint sp3 offered up unless you manually installed it before.

Right after you install SP3 you’ll also get several other security updates for SharePoint offered up.

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/security/bulletin/MS13-084 and http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/security/bulletin/MS13-067 to be exact.  You didn’t get them offered to SBS 2008 boxes because they were only built for SharePoint sp3 – which SBS 2008 wasn’t offered.

The problem was that after one installed SP2 on a box, MU/WSUS didn’t offer up SP3.  And if you didn’t get SP3 installed, you weren’t offered up the more recent security updates.

Bottom line, for those of you servicing SBS 2008, I think you’ll see some SharePoint updates even though the Patch Tuesday info won’t list them as being released.

Why is the coming to light now?  Because I noticed a few months ago my box wasn’t being offered up security updates and I realized it was because it hadn’t been offered up sp3.  I opened a case back in early October and it’s finally getting resolved.

SBS 2008 *should* (operative word, should) psconfig all by itself after these updates.  But you many need to kick a manual psconfig.
