Enable or Disable BitLocker to Unlock OS drive at Startup with PIN and USB in Windows 11

BitLocker Drive Encryption is a data protection feature that integrates with the operating system and addresses the threats of data theft or exposure from lost, stolen, or inappropriately decommissioned drives and computers.

New files are automatically encrypted when you save them to a drive encrypted by BitLocker. However, if you copy these files to another drive or a different PC not encrypted by BitLocker, the files are automatically decrypted.

BitLocker checks the PC during startup for any conditions that could represent a security risk (for example, a change to the BIOS software that starts the operating system when you turn on your PC, or changes to any startup files). If a potential security risk is detected, BitLocker will lock the operating system drive and you’ll need a special BitLocker recovery key to unlock it.

BitLocker will automatically unlock a OS drive encrypted by BitLocker with TPM at startup by default in Windows 11.

You can enable the Require additional authentication at startup policy to allow BitLocker to unlock the operating system drive with a PIN or USB flash drive.

This tutorial will show you how to enable or disable BitLocker to unlock the operating system drive at startup with a PIN or USB flash drive in Windows 10 and Windows 11.

How to Pin and Unpin Notifications in Your Phone app in Windows 10

Linking your Android phone to your PC lets you switch seamlessly between your phone and PC.

If you turned on to display notifications from your Android phone in the Your Phone app, you can view and manage your Android device notifications on your Windows 10 PC.

The Your Phone app has a new pinning feature integrated with the notifications feed. With notifications pinning, you can easily pin to save important notifications that will stick to the top of your feed so they are readily accessible and distinguished from the rest of your notifications.

Since the notification will now stick to the top of your feed, you no longer have to worry about losing the notification and can easily access the thread and use all your favorite functionality, like in-line reply. When you no longer need that notification thread, you can simply unpin it.

This tutorial will show you how to pin and unpin Android phone notifications to the top in the Your Phone app for your account in Windows 10.

How to Fix Unable to Add and Use PIN Sign-in Option in Windows 10

A PIN is a set of numbers, or a combination of letters and numbers, that you choose yourself. Using a PIN is a quick, secure way to sign in to your Windows 10 device. Your PIN is securely stored on your device.

When trying to change or add a PIN logon in Windows 10, you may encounter issues such as:

  • Error Message Something went wrong (code: 0x8009002d). Restart your device to see if that fixes the problem. when trying to Sign-In using Pin.
  • Error Message Something went wrong. Try again later when trying to Add / modify PIN.
  • Unable to configure Windows Hello because of PIN related issues.
  • Clicking on the Add PIN option does nothing.
  • PIN incorrect error even as you verify that the correct PIN was entered.
  • Add PIN option does not show under Sign-In options.

When this happens, it’s usually caused by the C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Local\Microsoft\NGC folder getting corrupted. Emptying the NGC folder and resetting the ACLs (Access Control Lists) on the NGC folder should fix these issues.

This tutorial will show you how to fix unable to add or use the PIN sign-in option for users in Windows 10.

How to Unblock SIM PIN for Cellular Data Network Connection in Windows 10

Some Windows 10 devices have a SIM card and/or eSIM in them that lets you connect to a cellular data network (aka: LTE or Broadband), so you can get online in more places by using a cellular signal.

If your Windows 10 device doesn’t have a SIM card or eSIM, you can still connect to a cellular network by plugging in an external cellular device (also called a cellular modem or mobile broadband device). However, these external cellular devices will often have their own settings instead of being able to use the built-in Settings > Network & Internet > Cellular settings in Windows 10.

You can use a PIN for the SIM in your Windows 10 device to help prevent other people from using the cellular data connection when they are not authorized. After you have set up your SIM PIN, you will be prompted to type the SIM PIN when you try to connect.

If you are using a SIM PIN for a cellular data connection and the incorrect PIN was entered three times, the SIM will be blocked and cannot be used until you unblock it. To unblock it, you will need to contact your mobile operator for the PIN Unblocking Key (PUK) code.

This tutorial will show you how to unblock a SIM card with a PIN Unblocking Key (PUK) code for the SIM PIN of a cellular data connection in Windows 10.
