Some time ago I came across an excellent reference for SQL Server 2005 T-SQL with the book SQL Server 2005 T-SQL Recipies by Joseph Sack. Within the book you’ll find recipies for every possible area of T-SQL as it ships with SQL Server 2005, ranging from basic querying constructs to the use of the CLR integration features and the Service Broker. The chapter on the new encryption features within SQL Server 2005 saved us many hours while we were enhancing the security features for an e-government project that we’re actively working on.
As someone who spends most of his time working with the C# language, and has often thought I should learn more about the T-SQL language, this book provides me an excellent resource for those moments when I find myself writing some more complex T-SQL such as that involved with the encryption and decryption of data using the database master and service master keys.
If you’re either a developer or DBA using SQL Server 2005 I would really recommend that you get a copy of this book in either hard copy or PDF.
