Media Center Extender Updates with CGMS-A Support

Update Rollup 1 for Media Center Extender contains various updates for the Windows XP Media Center Extender and includes CGMS-A protected TV content playback support. (HBO and Cinemax)

This update is recommended for all Linksys Media Center Extender and HP Media Center Extender customers.

  1. I installed the patch for the Update Rollup 1 patch for the Linksys Media Center, hoping to solve my #1 gripe with Media Center — not being able to watch HBO on the extender. The good news: The flashing messages about my HBO content being copy protected whenever I tried to played the channel went away after applying the patch. The bad news: I still can’t watch HBO on the extender because the screen freezes for approximately 3 of every 10 seconds. This "freezing" behavior only impacts copy protected content. And it only exists on the extender (I can watch HBO just fine on my main Media Center PC).

    Has anyone else installed the Linksys patch? Can you view copy protected content without issue? Any suggestions?
