Blockbuster Online is all buy dead now, they just raised
their prices again
!  3 DVD’s out at
once (Unlimited per month) just went from $24.99 to $34.99.  Netflix
anyone?  I bought a few Netflix gift
certificates for holiday gifts, glad I went that way instead of Blockbuster.

I’ve got a few good posts lined up for before
Christmas.  CableCARD news as always, and
DIRECTV (could it be?).

  1. Please bring on the DIRECTV news! I’m dying over here. Just ordered a HDHomerun to hold me over, but really want something “like” CableCard but not actually CableCard. 🙂

    Love the site.

  2. No, Blockbuster is still where it is at. Netflix cannot compete with Total Access. I get 2 online dvd’s out at all times for $16.99 with the ability to get Total Access rentals at Blockbuster.

I will never do netflix again.

  3. Paul: That’s all good and great, but with that plan you only get 3 in store exchanges a month ($16.99). While the in store exchanges are a huge advantage of Blockbuster, Netflix has 2 DVD’s a month + 14 hours of online streaming for $13.99.

14 hours of video is about 7 two hour movies. You only get 3 in store exchanges (6 hours of video) with your plan for more money. To me, Netflix is a better value.

  4. Where do you get the idea that I only get 3 in store exchanges? I probably exchange 8-10 times per month. There is no 3 exchange limit on this plan.

  5. Here is my plan:

BLOCKBUSTER Total Access Premium $14.99 / month (plus taxes)
    2 at-a-time, unlimited mailings
    unlimited in-store movie exchanges
+1 FREE bonus Movie or Game Rental E-Coupon / Month

Now, the price was just increased to $16.99 but it is still a heck of a deal.

  6. Then either you got a shoe-in deal, or your about to get a big price increase and shock.

You can see the plans on Blockbusters website
    https://www.blockbuster.com/signup/rp/regPlan

The $14.99 plan will go to $16.99 on the 27th. I assumed you were talking about this plan which is 2 DVD’s at a time, and there is a 3 in-store exchange limit.

The 2 DVD’s at a time w/ unlimited exchanges is currently $21.99 and should be increasing to $29.99 on the 27th of this month.

Those prices are crazy. If you got a shoe-in deal or someone have a lower price, more power to you. But when I look at the prices vs. features, Netflix wins hands down despite the fact that I have a Blockbuster 0.8 miles from the house.

  7. You replied as I was typing, that plan (2 DVD’s at a time [unlimited mailings] w/ unlimited exchanges) is currently $21.99 if you take a look at their website.

That price should be increasing to $29.99 on the 27th of this month.

You seem to have the price for the 2 DVD’s at a time with limited exchanges. I believe that was put in place 6 months or so ago.

  8. wow…I had not seen those new prices. I guess I was grandfathered in or something. Hopefully I will not be in for big shock…we shall see.
