AdInsight v.10

ADInsight is an LDAP (Light-weight Directory Access Protocol) real-time monitoring
tool aimed at troubleshooting Active Directory client applications. Use its detailed tracing
of Active Directory client-server communications to solve Windows authentication, Exchange,
DNS, and other problems.

ADInsight uses DLL injection techniques to intercept calls that applications make in the Wldap32.dll
library, which is the standard library underlying Active Directory APIs such ldap and ADSI. Unlike
network monitoring tools, ADInsight intercepts and interprets all client-side APIs, including those that
do not result in transmission to a server. ADInsight monitors any process into which it can load it’s tracing
DLL, which means that it does not require administrative permissions, however, if run with administrative
rights, it will also monitor system processes, including windows services.

Didn’t have time to play around with it yet,but sounds exciting. Will report on it later on.

  1. Very nice feature! I love tools like this. By the way, have recently stumbled upon another cool tool for active directory auditing http://www.scriptlogic.com/active-directory-auditing.asp from Scriptlogic called Active Administrator. It’s a whole tool center for Active Directory management! Geez, this tool probably concentrates everything I have in my collection of Active Directory management tools in a single GUI. I’ve tried it on my rigs. Works like a dream. And I can define if I want to track changes and actions in real time or receive reports and notifications by e-mail. Might be helpful for somebody like me needing something to take every single object in Active Directory and operations on it. One of the things I loved is the backup feature for AD objects and GPO. Granular like a ntdsutil but surely far more user friendly and easy to use. Something like ADExplorer – only 100% useful features and no bells’n’whistles . But much more powerful to me.
