Since I don’t live near a population center, I’m often asked about my travel, so on this page I will log my community participation and travel for the year 2014. I’ll try to keep it updated throughout the year.
January
No events, as I usually take December and January off for family time.
February
4 (Tuesday): Presented at CMAP in Columbia, MD. 386 miles, round trip. I left home at 2:30 Tuesday afternoon. On the return trip I got waylaid by an ice storm and a closed Interstate, so I stopped and got a hotel room. Returned home 10:30 Wedensday morning.
6 (Thursday): Attended Roanoke Valley .NET User Group (RVNUG) to hear Derik Whittaker speak on SignalR. 198 miles round trip, left at 4pm, returned home at 11pm.
23 – 27 (Sunday – Thursday): Presented at CodePaLOUsa in Louisville, KY. Rode with my good buddy Kendall Miller. 948 miles round trip (~8 hours each way). Sunday and Thursday were driving days.
March
6 (Thursday): Presented at Roanoke Valley .NET User Group (RVNUG) . 198 miles round trip, left at 4pm, home at 11pm.
21-23 (Friday – Sunday): Presented at Orlando Code Camp. Actually flew for a change! Left on Friday morning at 6am, got home Sunday evening at 7:30pm.
April
3 (Thursday): Presented at Richmond .NET User Group (RDNUG). 218 miles round trips, left at 4pm, home at 11pm.
15 (Tuesday): Presented at Rappahannock .NET User Group (RADNUG). 332 miles round trip, left at 3:30, home at 11:45pm.
22 (Tuesday): Presented at the inaugural Capital Area ALM Group. 263 miles round trip, left at 3:30, home at 11:45pm.
May
2-4 (Friday – Sunday): Presented at Carolina Code Camp. Rode with my good friend Kevin Hazzard, 600 miles round trip. Left Friday at 11:30 am, returned Sunday at 4:30pm.
15 (Thursday): Boise, ID, .NET User Group. Had the rare opportunity to present remotely. Late evening, because of the time difference: 8:30 – 10:30pm.
16-17 (Friday – Saturday): Roanoke Code Camp. 192 miles round trip. Left Friday at 4pm, returned home Saturday at 9:30pm.
June
5 (Thursday): Attended Roanoke Valley .NET User Group (RVNUG). 192 miles round trip, left at 4pm, home at 11pm.
10 (Tuesday): Presented at Hampton Roads .NET User Group (HRNUG). 445 miles round tripe, left at 12pm, home at 2:15am.
20-22 (Friday-Sunday): Presented at Philly Code Camp. 619 miles round trip, left at 12pm Friday, home at 9pm Sunday.
July
1 (Tuesday): Attended Richmond JavaScript User Group (RVAJS). 236 miles round trip. Left home at 4:30pm, returned at 10pm.
8 – 13 (Tuesday – Sunday): Presented at CodeStock 2014. Left a couple of days early for company meetings before the conference. Rode with Kevin Hazzard, 700 miles round trip. Left Tuesday at 11:30pm, returned Sunday at 8pm.
29 (Tuesday): Presented at Microsoft Maniacs in Sterling, VA. 260 miles round trip. Left home at 3pm, returned at 11pm.
August
7 (Thursday): Presented at Roanoke Valley .NET User Group (RVNUG). Last minute replacement for a cancellation, first time at a new venue. 205 miles round trip. Left home at 3pm, returned at 11:30pm.
25-29 (Monday – Friday): Presented at DevLink in Chattanooga, TN. Left Monday at 8am. [*went on vacation after the conference and didn’t return until September]. 1040 miles from home to Chattanooga and back.
September
16 (Tuesday): Presented at Central Penn .NET User Group (Harrisburg, PA). 400 miles round trip. Left at 2pm, returned home at 11pm.
Octbober
9 (Thursday): Presented at New River Valley .NET User Group (Blacksburg, VA). 254 miles round trip. Left at 3pm, returned home at 11pm.
10-12 (Friday-Sunday): Presented at Nova Code Camp (Reston, VA). 270 miles round trip. Left at 5pm Friday, returned home at 11am Sunday.
28 (Tuesday): Presented at CapArea.NET (Tyson’s Corner, VA). 268 miles round trip. Left at 3pm, returned home at 11:30pm.
November
1-7 (Saturday-Friday): Attended the annual MVP Summit in Redmond, WA. Drove to Richmond Saturday for a super early flight on Sunday. (265 miles round trip to the Richmond Airport). Flew back on the red-eye Thursday night, got home at 2:30pm on Friday.
9-14 (Sunday-Friday): Presented at DevIntersection in Las Vegas, NV. Left at 5:30am on Sunday, flew from Vegas to Pennsylvania on Friday.
14-16 (Friday-Sunday): Presented at Central Penn Code Camp in Harrisburg, VA. Flew in from Vegas onFriday, drove home (200 miles in a rental car) on Sunday.
