WTF Is Web 2.0?

I have been reading about Web 2.0 all week (the Web 2.0 Conference was this week), but I gotta admit, I remain skeptical. Tim O’Reilly weighs in with an informative post titled What Is Web 2.0, which seems to be a good place to start.

Then again, it took me longer than usual to “get” RSS, so maybe I’m just slow. 🙂

Update: after letting Tim’s article sink in for a couple of hours, I’ve decided there is an interesting lesson to be learned here. Web 2.0 is, as Tim points out, not a clearly defined entity or category as much as it is “a gravitational center”, but if you forgive it for that, there is an undeniable common characteristic that emerges from all of these Web 2.0 applications: they’re all delivering some form of software as a service. Salesforce.com, Webex.com, Gmail, and others are cited. Clearly the trend is real.

Oh, and I forgot one of my favorite Web 2.0 companies: Positive Networks provides a web-based managed remote access service that’s Really Swell. Then again, I may be biased.
