Stewart tanácsadói karrierjének befejezése után úgy döntött, hogy pótolja a hiányt, és áttanulmányozza a cégvezetési szakirodalmat. „Már csak azért is, hogy utánajárjak, tényleg nem vesztettem-e semmit azzal, hogy nem business schoolban tanultam.” Az olvasás azonban beigazolta sötét gyanúját, hogy a cégvezetési tudomány nem sokat ér. „De akkor miért tanítják?” – tette fel a kérdést a filozófus.
A menedzsment ismeretek elmélete 1899-ben született. A tudomány atyja egy Frederick Winslow Taylor nevű acélgyári tisztviselő, aki elégedetlen volt a rakodómunkások teljesítményével, ezért kitalálta, hogy kétszeres bért fizet a legjobb munkásoknak, tíz tagbaszakadt magyar trógernek. A számítás bevált: a melósok alig negyed óra alatt több vasrudat vagoníroztak be, mint korábban egy egész nap alatt.
Taylor osztott és szorzott, és kiszámolta, hogy tudományos alapon hány tonna vas felpakolása várható el naponta a munkásoktól. Felfedezését A tudományos menedzsment alapelvei című könyvben publikálta, és ezzel lefektette a modern cégvezetés tudományának alapjait.
Meglepett, hogy a magyar nyelvi verzióban ezt is lefordították:

- Migrating from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007

New tool is called vLite, short for Vista Lite, and it’s available now on the download page.
It’s still early in development and if you don’t test it first then maybe it’s best to wait a final version.

A holland Van Gogh Museum kezdőoldala lenyűgöző, néhány önarcképén a szemére folyamatos zoom-in/zoom.out -ot csináltak. Igen szuggesztív.

The Tasmanian devil cannot be mistaken for any other marsupial. Its spine-chilling screeches, black colour, and reputed bad-temper, led the early European settlers to call it The Devil. Although only the size of a small dog, it can sound and look incredibly fierce.

The world’s largest surviving carnivorous marsupial, the devil has a thick-set, squat build, with a relatively large, broad head and short, thick tail. The fur is mostly or wholly black, but white markings often occur on the rump and chest. Body size also varies greatly, depending on the diet and habitat. Adult males are usually larger than adult females. Large males weigh up to 12 kg, and stand about 30 cm high at the shoulder.

Every piece of evidence I’ve heard from developers inside Microsoft supports my theory that the company has become completely tangled up in bureaucracy, layers of management, meetings ad infinitum, and overstaffing. The only way Microsoft has managed to hire so many people has been by lowering their hiring standards significantly. In the early nineties Microsoft looked at IBM, especially the bloated OS/2 team, as a case study of what not to do; somehow in the fifteen year period from 1991 – 2006 they became the bloated monster that takes five years to ship an incoherent upgrade to their flagship product.

Az egyik legnagyobb nehézség a Windows-ról Linuxra való áttérés során az egymással összehasonlítható szoftverek ismeretének a hiánya. Új felhasználók többnyire a Windows-os programok Linux-os megfelelőit keresik, ugyanakkor a tapasztalt Linux-osok nem tudják megválaszolni a kérdéseiket, hiszen sokszor nem tudnak túl sokat a Windowsról. 🙂 Ez a táblázat a Windows alatt futó programok Linux-os megfelelőiról, alternatíváiról illetve a helyettesítő programokról a saját tapasztalatainkon, illetve az oldal látogatóitól kapott informácikon (köszönet érte!) alapul.
