2005-05-14 “Breaking Up Is Hard To Do”

There are lots of posts about migrating from SBS2000 to SBS2003, or simply migrating an SBS server to new hardware. Jeff Middleton has been hitting the road in the last several months touting his ‘Swing Migration’ as one such solution to moving ot new hardware.

It got me to thinking that sometimes we see or think of our servers like our child, and it’s hard to imagine moving on to newer hardware. So our song of the week, which looks at migration from our old server’s point of view, has a special distinction – the only song to hit #1 twice (1962, 1975) by the same artist (Neil Sedaka)

Breaking Up Is Hard To Do

by Neil Sedaka

Don’t take your files away from me
Don’t you leave my disks in misery
If you go then I’ll be blue
‘Cause breaking up is hard to do

Remember when you first bought me
And you installed SBS, oh, what a treat!
Think of all that we’ve been through
And breaking up is hard to do

They say that breaking up is hard to do
Now I know, I know that it’s true
Don’t say that this is the end
Instead of breaking up
Why don’t you use me as a Term Server friend?

I beg of you, don’t say goodbye
Can’t we give our NICs another try
Come on baby, let’s start a new
‘Cause breaking up is hard to do
