2007-05-19 "You’ve Got A Friend"

Well, the “Song of the Week” factory has been idle this year, so I think it’s time to open the doors and get a song out. The inspiration for this week’s song comes from my two week battle with my first ever kidney stone. Today, I went into the hospital to have a Lithotripsy procedure performed to try to break up the stone through the use of high energy sound/shock waves.

The procedure is 80% effective. Unfortunately, I ended up being in the 20% where it’s ineffective.

My song was written just prior to going into the hospital this morning. It’s an old favorite that was a hit for two artisits, James Taylor and Carole King:

You’ve Got a Friend

Err … “You’ve Got a Stone”

When you’re down and in pain
And you need more vicodin
And nothing, oh nothing is going right
Close your eyes and scream out loud
And perhaps the pain will clear
To help you sleep all through the darkest night

You just take one more pill
When you know you’re feeling so ill
And then make a dash to the bathroom at home
Morning, noon, dinner or night
When your body is putting up a fight
You’ve got to tell the truth:
You’ve got a stone.

Now ain’t it good to know that you’ve got a stone
When the pain comes in the middle of the night
It will hurt you, and totally break you
It’ll take your soul if you let it
Oh, but don’t you let it

You just take one more pill
When you know you’re feeling so ill
And then call your doctor for a few more pills
Morning, noon, dinner or night
When your body is putting up a fight
You’ve got to tell the truth:
You’ve got a stone.

You’ve got a stone.
