Wie auch ihr nutze ich jeden Tag viele verschiedene Tools, die mir meine Arbeit erleichtern. Von Outlook über Lync (bzw. Skype for Business) zu OneNote.

Seit gut einem Jahr nutze ich immer häufiger an meinem Windows Phone die kostenfreie Microsoft App “Office Lens”. Seit Anfang April 2015 gibt es die nun auch für iOS!

Office Lens hilft mir beispielsweise, ein Whiteboard oder Flipchart nach einer Besprechung sauber elektronisch festzuhalten. Oder letzte Woche war ich auf der Microsoft Ignite Konferenz. Da habe ich viel über die Vorlesungsinhalte getwittert. Oftmals habe ich dazu mit Office Lens die sich an der Leinwand befindliche Präsentation abfotografiert und dem Tweet angehängt. Die Qualität dabei ist überragend. Office Lens kann sogar schiefe Blickwinkel (ich saß ja nicht immer direkt gerade und unmittelbar vor der Leinwand) korrigieren und den Inhalt sauber darstellen. Die Aufnahmen können dann als Bild, PDF oder Word-Dokument entweder als Datei, direkt in OneNote oder in OneDrive gespeichert werden.

Ich füge hier mal ein Beispiel einer solchen Leinwand an.

Das erste Bild wurde mit meinem iPhone und der normalen Fotoanwendung abfotografiert.

Das zweite Bild wurde von gleicher Position mit Office Lens fotografiert. Eine Nachbearbeitung fand nicht statt.

Als weiteres Beispiel habe ich ein Whiteboard abfotografiert. Wieder einmal ohne und einmal mit Office Lens. Ich denke, da ist der Unterschied noch deutlicher.

Als drittes Beispiel zeige ich euch das Ergebnis einer mit Office Lens fotografierten Rechnung.

Hier seht ihr, wie ich mit meinem Windows Phone die Rechnung abfotografiere. Lens erkennt die Umrisse automatisch. Notfalls per Zoomfunktion nachhelfen.

Das Ergebnis sieht dann so aus:

Das ist ja alles noch recht unspektakulär ;) So richtig spannend wird es, wenn man Office Lens mit Microsoft OneNote nutzt. OneNote ist ja ebenso kostenfrei und für alle Plattformen verfügbar. Ein absolut geniales Tool für alle Art von Notizen. Für mich alleine und zum sharen mit meinem Arbeitsteam. Auch für Schulklassen sehr interessant. Microsoft hat für die Ignite das übliche gedruckte Guidebook in OneNote veröffentlicht und so eine weit bessere Nutzbarkeit ermöglicht. Aber ich schweife ab…:)

Ich habe die obige Rechnung in OneNote eingefügt. Dadurch wird der Text durchsuchbar. Im folgenden Beispiel habe ich nach “Chicago” gesucht. Ihr seht im Bild der Rechnung, wie der gefundene Suchbegriff markiert wurde. Rechts zu sehen ist die OCR-Vorschau.

Wenn man die Lens-Aufnahme als PDF speichert, kann man auch auswählen, ob es automatisch per OCR verarbeitet werden soll, damit es als Text durchsuchbar ist.

Geeignet ist Office Lens also für sehr viele Anwendungszwecke: Schule, Studium, Büro, auf Reisen.

So, den Rest überlasse ich eurem Kopfkino!

Ich kann euch beide Tools nur wärmstens empfehlen. Was ihr daraus macht, ist eure Sache.

Mark Russinovich hat ein neues Sysinternals Tool herausgebracht: PsPing

PsPing is a command-line utility for measuring network performance. In addition to standard ICMP ping functionality, it can report the latency of connecting to TCP ports, the latency of TCP round-trip communication between systems, and the TCP bandwidth available to a connection between systems. Besides obtaining min, max, and average values in 0.01ms resolution, you can also use PsPing to generate histograms of the results that are easy to import into spreadsheets.

Seit heute ist für TMG ein richtiger BPA verfügbar. Der ISA BPA lief ja auch unter TMG, der TMG BPA ist aber speziell (und auch nur auf TMG lauffähig) angepasst.

Overview

The Forefront TMG BPA is a diagnostic tool that automatically performs specific tests on configuration data collected on the local Forefront TMG computer from the Forefront TMG hierarchy of administration COM objects, Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) classes, the system registry, files on disk, and the Domain Name System (DNS) settings. The resulting report details critical configuration issues, potential problems, and information about the local computer. By following the recommendations of the tool, administrators can achieve greater performance, scalability, reliability, and uptime.

The Forefront TMG BPA is supplied with two supplemental tools:

• The TMG Data Packager enables you to create a single .cab file containing Forefront TMG diagnostic information that can be easily sent to Microsoft Product Support Services for analysis.
• BPA2Visio generates a Microsoft Office Visio® diagram of your network topology as seen from a Forefront TMG computer or any Windows computer based on output from Forefront TMG BPA. Note that Microsoft Office Visio 2003, 2007, or 2010 must be installed in order to run BPA2Visio.

GFI releases Freeware version of GFI WebMonitor for ISA Server

Raleigh, NC, August 13, 2009 – Uncontrolled and unmonitored internet access is not only a serious security risk to organizations but can also lead to increased productivity costs and time-wasting. Management needs to be aware of what their employees are doing online even more so if their online activity is non-work related. GFI WebMonitor allows administrators to manage what sites users can browse and block access to websites in particular categories, such as adult, online gaming, personal email, P2P, Facebook, Myspace, travel websites and more. Web monitoring is made easy with WebGrade, an extensive database that provides URL coverage for 165,000,000 domains and that is continuously updated.

GFI WebMonitor also offers web security features that allow you to monitor what files employees are downloading, to block file-types such as mp3s and to scan all files for viruses, spyware and malware using multiple anti-virus engines. Als er noch in der Beta-Phase war, hatte ich schonmal einen Blick darauf geworfen, aber – um ehrlich zu sein – mich nicht getraut, damit auch zu bloggen: Der Windows Live Writer

Nach eineinhalb Jahren und 168 Blogeinträgen fühle ich mich nach wie vor als Anfänger. Ein Bild gab’s nur einmal, Tabellen nie. Aber damit könnte jetzt Schluss sein.

Gestern habe ich meinen ersten Blogeintrag mit dem Windows Live Writer geschrieben. Diesen hier jetzt natürlich auch.

Die Bedienung und die vorhandenen Funktionen haben mich überzeugt. Gerade für mich ist es ideal, da ich viel im Zug und Flieger sitze. Da kann man schön Beiträge offline vorbereiten und zu einem späteren Zeitpunkt veröffentlichen.

Es gibt sicherlich viele andere Tools auch, die mit den selben oder sogar mehr Funktionen aufwarten, aber zum Beispiel durch die Integration in das WSUS-Patchmanagement erhoffe ich mir einen Vorteil.
