Q: What is Xian Wings?
Xian Wings is a mobile IT management solution that works with Microsoft System Center Operations Manager to provide system states, alert notifications and performance history to users with wireless access. This native Blackberry application also provides real-time alert notification, custom graphing of performance data and Ops Manager task execution.
Q: When will Xian Wings be available?
Xian Wings is scheduled for release January 25, 2010
Q: How will pricing and licensing work?
Customers will be able to purchase the Wings Server, plus five Blackberry connections for $1200 usd. Additional Blackberry connections may be purchased for $200-300 usd each based on volume purchased.
Q: Which models of BlackBerry are supported?
The Blackberry Curve, Bold and Pearl smartphone models running OS version 4.5 or higher will be supported in Version 1.0 of Xian Wings 1010. Support for additional models will be added in future releases.
Q: Is there going to be support for other platforms?
Yes. The Wings Server has been designed to support multiple Smartphone platforms. Future versions of Wings will be supported on the iPhone, Android and Windows Mobile devices.
Q: Do I need a Blackberry Enterprise Server to run Wings?
No. The State Change, Alert Console and Performance Graphing features work without the need for a Blackberry Enterprise Server. A BES server is only required to enable the Alert Notification in Wings.
Q: Which wireless connection types are supported by Wings?
Wings is supported over 3G, Edge and Wi-Fi internet connections.
Q: Can I use Xian Wings without having Xian Network Manager installed?
Yes. While Xian Wings and Xian Network Manager have complementary features, they work independently.
Xian Wings 2010 coming from Jalasoft
Jalasoft informed a close network of contacts today that they are going to announce the release of Xian Wings 2010. Wings 2010 will be part of the Xian suite and will make it possible for network and server administrators to gain better control of their environments thanks to a special client application that works on their mobile device.
