Calling all Trenders…

Body: I’m trying to take the temperature from the community here on an issue that I’ve seen pop up on a few of the computers at a few of my sites.  I’ve lodged the issue with Trend now here in Australia, and I’ve started to hear from a few others around the world that they too might be experiencing the same issue.  So what I’m trying to do is to use the power of the community to feedback to Trend some additional information so that they can better investigate and resolve the issue.  If you are experiencing the issue I … Continue reading Calling all Trenders…

DCDIAG and Redirected Printers

Body: I’m doing a migration this weekend in a large, non SBS site.  As part of that I’ve replaced the domain controller in a remote site with a new box.  After making it a domain controller, I ran DCDIAG to check that all was fine.  I got a number of errors in the output log that didn’t make sense.  The error below is from the DCDIAG output. Starting test: systemlog         An Error Event occured.  EventID: 0x00000457            Time Generated: 11/17/2007   13:36:00            (Event String could not be retrieved)         An Error Event occured.  EventID: 0x00000457            Time Generated: 11/17/2007   13:36:00            (Event String could not … Continue reading DCDIAG and Redirected Printers

Windows Live Writer can be used with a Sharepoint Blog

Body: I found out over the weekend that Microsoft have released the Windows Live Writer.  Currently I use Word 2007 to do all my writing and publishing to this blog and it’s as easy as writing the content and pressing the Publish button instead of a Print button.  Ok – so Live Writer has been released – you can get it here.  What this means is that you no longer need to have the latest version of Office to easily publish a blog post to a Sharepoint blog. Live Writer seems to have all the features of what I use … Continue reading Windows Live Writer can be used with a Sharepoint Blog

Groove on multiple computers – not synchronising correctly.

Body: I’ve been trying to get into Groove and things were working pretty well. I use it on my desktop and my laptop with all workspaces shared between the two of them. However recently I got a new laptop and desktop. They didn’t come at the same time, but with a few months between them. I got the new desktop first and set it up. I exported my groove account info to a file which I saved on my server. I then imported it to the new desktop and things were ok. Sync worked and all workspaces were up to … Continue reading Groove on multiple computers – not synchronising correctly.

I am not worthy, but Thank you CRN.

Body: I was invited to attend the inaugural CRN Awards here in Sydney last Friday night as a guest of Trend Micro. This is their first awards ceremony here in Australia but their UK and USA counterparts have been doing them for many years. As part of the awards, they had two Channel Champions, one from the Vendor / Distributor channel and another from the Reseller channel. The nomination and selection process for these is somewhat secretive but involved contributions from multiple vendors and distributors. I had no idea that my name was nominated for the reseller award. Helen Frost … Continue reading I am not worthy, but Thank you CRN.

Damien says “This is like Geek Porn…”

Body: In our office, one of our guys – Damien, is our resident coder/programmer guru. I showed him a book today "Windows Command-Line Administrators Pocket Consultant" from MS Press ISBN 978-0-7356-2038-4. This book is one I’m reading right now and shows how with nothing more than the tools that come with Windows 2003 and the Resource kit, you can script all kinds of cool things. Creation of RAID sets, printers, users, you name it. Damien was somewhat overcome with enthusiasm as he said "This is like geek porn". Seriously guys – if you don’t do much in the way of … Continue reading Damien says “This is like Geek Porn…”
