The Dalai Lama, MVP Summit and Bishop Desmond Tutu…

Body: I’ve been here in Seattle since last Friday for the MVP summit which started last night.  I’m staying in a hotel in downtown Seattle, and when I walked into the hotel, I walked right into a line of Seattles finest police in full uniform… I wondered what I had done… I mean – I know I’m important (NOT!) but hey – I didn’t expect the police presence.  I joked with one of the police that I didn’t think the knew what I had done – they joked back that they knew what I WOULD do if I didn’t behave … Continue reading The Dalai Lama, MVP Summit and Bishop Desmond Tutu…

What is C:\Windows\Installer and why does it take up so much space?

Body: On one of my servers, I got a low disk space alert today for the C: drive.  This server hosts a number of websites including this blog so I was somewhat puzzled as to what would consume so much space.  The C: drive on this server is 30GB in size.  I use a freeware utility called TreeSize Free to determine where the space is – it’s a cool utility and allows you to drill down into folders to see what is taking up so much space. Here’s a screen shot of it You can see I’ve got 6.3GB taken … Continue reading What is C:\Windows\Installer and why does it take up so much space?

Are you running a business or a hobby?

Body: Interesting question huh.  Many of us in the SMB IT Pro sector have more fallen into our business rather than actively planned our business.  As such many of us treat it more as a hobby that we make money out of than a business that can sustain itself.  Is that the wrong thing to do?  I mean a hobby is very enjoyable and the passion we put into a hobby means we often get some amazing results.  So what is wrong with making a hobby into a business?  With a hobby you often make investments with no real plan … Continue reading Are you running a business or a hobby?

UKSMBGirl lands in the land downunder…

Body: UKSMBGirl – aka Susanne Dansey has moved from the UK and is now resident here in Australia.  I got the chance to catch up with her this week and after a week settling in she finally thinks that she’s adjusted to our timezones 🙂  Susanne is well known from her various kick ass presentations to SMB IT resellers where she tells it like it is and helps them better understand what they can do to develop their business. Hopefully we can entice her to join the Sydney SBS Group and share some of her experiences with us.  Maybe she’ll … Continue reading UKSMBGirl lands in the land downunder…
