Windows Genuine Advantage Notification Tool and restricted user accounts – oops

PCs may be falsely flagged as running a non-genuine version of Windows if the user who runs the WGANT is a restricted user. The fix is to allow restricted users permission to write to a single file, being a file called “data.dat”, stored in the directory: ..\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Windows Genuine Advantage\data http://support.microsoft.com/kb/917050/en-us

Its a red letter day for the family

Not only is my son “working” today (work experience as part of his 2nd last year of high school), but my daughter will be working her first shift at her first part time job. Cool – I’m one step closer to being supported in my retirement ;o) They grow up so fast.
