BTW, it’s not an actual failure – all that’s happened is I opened Chrome to that page when an update was already in progress. It’s a confusing message Google, you might consider fixing things so that the page shows that an update is in progress instead of scary, and inaccurate, failure alerts.  If I close Chrome, then open it again after that setup process is finished, the green tick will be back and all will be good.
