Symptoms & Result:
- After installation the SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services service might not start. Therefore the Reporting Services cannot be used anymore.
Distribution:
- The Update is distributed via Windows Update.
Workaround:
- Uninstall the update (requires a restart).
My recommendation:
(for your internal SQL server you use for TFS)
- Do not install the update and wait for the next service pack release.

This isn’t a hotfix, this is a security patch.
As MVPs can we better get to the bottom of this.
Each person needs to evaluate the risk factors of this security patch, but calling it merely a hotfix is not what this is.
Although I went to the bottom of it, that actually doesn’t matter to me. This update won’t get installed since it creates a new problem.
With calling it a “hotfix” I wanted to refer to the level of testing which is not adequate for environments I support.
